My academic background is in Mechanical Engineering, but my career started in marketing. I began with offline marketing and lead generation, working closely with campaigns, customers, and sales. Much of the work was about reaching people, generating interest, and bringing leads into the pipeline.
As I gained experience, my responsibilities grew beyond lead generation. I started looking at where leads were coming from, how different sources were performing, and how the wider team was handling those leads. This gave me my first real interest in looking at marketing through numbers, not just activity.
In 2023, I decided to explore digital marketing, something I had been interested in for a long time but had never properly pursued.
Digital marketing introduced me to a different side of the same discipline:
"There was more to test, measure, compare, and learn from. I became interested not only in executing marketing activities, but also in understanding how people moved through the journey."
That interest gradually pulled me deeper into analytics. I started with Excel and Google Sheets, using them to work with marketing and sales data, build reports, compare performance, and create dashboards. As the questions became more complex, I moved into more advanced analytical work and developed skills in data querying, visualisation, programming, statistics, and machine learning.
Over time, the two paths stopped feeling like separate areas. My experience in marketing helps me understand the business, customer, campaign, and commercial context behind the data. Analytics gives me the ability to investigate that data, find patterns, measure performance, and turn what I find into something useful.
